Innovative submerged house in the Cotswolds

Residential

The challenge of a severely restricted and sloping site, overlooked by residential properties from above, informed the design for a partially submerged, single dwelling.

The result is an exciting, private house which is split into two distinct halves. The contemporary half of the building is submerged into the hill and accommodates two en-suite bedrooms, a family bathroom and hall. The roof is grassed, doubling up as an open garden area. The second element has the appearance of a vernacular stone barn and accommodates an open-plan kitchen/ dining space, with a living room above. Both halves are linked by a landscaped outdoor courtyard which brings natural daylight into the house.
