Project Brief:
We were commissioned by a leading Independent School to review a feasibility study for the development of a 20 to 40 bedroom boarding house on a site adjacent to the main school campus. The building is designed to accommodate the schools growth and change to co-education.

 

Accommodation Blocks:
The design comprises two principal boarding accommodation blocks, each accommodating 20 bedrooms over two floors. Each block is supported by dedicated housemaster/housemistress accommodation.

 

Communal Spaces:
Common rooms are provided on both the ground and first floors of each block, encouraging social interaction between year groups. These spaces also serve to link the two blocks internally.

External Courtyard:
A South facing landscaped external quad forms the heart of the development, offering students a shared outdoor space for relaxation and informal gatherings.

 

Bedroom Design:
Individual bedrooms are expressed externally with projecting bay windows. These features not only articulate the façade but also provide students with integrated window seats and dedicated study areas.
