New 6th Form Centre
The aim of the new sixth-form building is to create an inspirational, dedicated sixth-form centre, positioned apart from the main school, enabling the expansion of the current 6th form and the repurposing of existing accommodation for general school use.
The 6th form centre incorporates the following accommodation:
-
Kitchen and Dining area
-
Social and informal study areas
-
Student/ Staff support offices
-
WC’s and Lift
The design incorporates an outdoor terrace area adjacent to the sixth-form centre, intended for quiet study. This terrace will feature landscaping elements to enhance the student experience and contribute to a more pleasant and engaging learning environment.
The proposed new sixth-form building is set in from the existing roofline to enhance buildability and reduce the bulk and massing of the rooftop extension. This set-in allows space for a sedum planting roof, which will contribute to improved site biodiversity and provide a pleasant outlook for sixth-form students.
The proposed design draws inspiration from the existing school building, which features a combination of rendered walling, rainscreen panelling, and timber boarding.
This proposal represents a simplified version of the previously approved scheme, resulting in a building that is easier to maintain over its lifespan. The compact form also enhances energy efficiency, contributing to the overall sustainability of the development.
The proposal also includes a significant area of solar pv panels, intended for on-site electricity generation and contributing to the decarbonisation of the school estate.
