Bishop Stopford Sixth Form
Sixth Form Study Centre, Bishop Stopford School, Northamptonshire.

The new centre was developed to address the growing demand for school places and the need for a versatile study space that transitions seamlessly between school and university environments. The primary challenge was constructing the building on the existing car park without disrupting school operations or reducing parking capacity. Our innovative solution was a striking, glazed link structure that seamlessly integrates the old and new buildings, becoming the focal point of the design.
Key Features:
- Glazed Link: Connects the new study centre, tutorial rooms, classrooms, and offices to the existing sixth form common room.
- Sustainable Design: Low energy consumption and highly insulated.
- Open Plan Study Centre: Features exposed sloping ceilings.
- Solar PV Cells: For renewable energy.
- Solar Shading: Brises soleil for effective sun control.
- Ash Cladding Lift Structure: Enhances aesthetic appeal.
- Low Maintenance Finishes: Both internal and external.
- Natural Ventilation: Incorporates a ventilation chimney.
"GTA have designed and delivered a fabulous building which has exceeded all our expectations. Their professional and pragmatic approach made the process from feasibility to handover straightforward and understandable. They had a good working relationship with our main contractor, which helped us get the building delivered on time and on budget." - Liana Blake, Business Manager, Bishop Stopford School.
